Rushing: TIme to invade

Rushing : Time to invade!

Kappa Kappa Delta had almost 37 member last year and almost 15 of them graduated so we were at our lowest active number of actives present for years. So, we wanted to rush hard, and by rushing hard, I completely mean rushing students who could understand the actual meaning of being in a fraternity and how is it to be Kappa and whether it would define them to be a Kappa

And for them we have a few events lined up for the year. The toga party about 2 weeks ago was great success and great experience for the rushees to encounter. We also have GLIT(Get Lost In Texas), where we take rushees and their dates in the middle of Texas and rent out caravans for the night. In all we are about 80 people and this gives an inner insight of how we roll. This is the major rush event as well. Once a week we also organize a dinner at one of the many local restaurants. In addition to giving Actives and rushees the ability to converse in a casual environment, these events give freshman a chance to try something that isn't catered by Aramark or a national fast food chain. A break from the cafeteria is always a nice change of pace. Apart from that, we have Funk, which by the word itself is pretty funky, and this particular event is open for everyone. We hire a roller-skating for the night and dress up as the 80’s and just go crazy and bizarre. the goal of these events is to give all the rushees a chance to meet as many actives as possible goal of these events is to give all the rushees a chance to meet as many actives as possible.

Pledging is crazy…can’t handle it

Like I said, everything over to me was something unknown, something that I have not witnessed before and I personally believe pledging was the best-unseen thing ever in my life. And here’s the catch, I had to leave for India for my brother’s marriage for a week right after bid- day, and this obviously meant none of the Kappa active members knew about this. So once pledging started for me, I have already practically missed a week’s of hard core pledging which left the actives annoyed.

Getting back on track was hard as I no clue or idea what was going on when I got back but things seemed to get clearer with time. The essence is brotherhood and respect. These two elements were the key features and formations of the kappa kappa delta. To show respect for your pledge brother and have brotherhood respect for them. Even the slightest mistake in the spectrum

Now to the real part, pledging is not at all about drinking and hazing, as most characterize it under, but something, which has a deeper meaning to it. We were constantly driven to be brotherly to your pledge brothers and had group building activities to make us stronger as a group. We had retreats and camping trips for us to realize the importance of joining a fraternity and being a part of it. Apart from this, we also engaged in community service, which not only got us together but also got something do good. In a nut shell, Pledging made me realize how important the deal was and it was indeed the biggest step of my college life.
